Adeloye Sulaiman, Osogbo.
Former secretary to Osun state government, Engr. Sola Akinwumi, has backed agitations that Osun West Senatorial District should be handed the governorship ticket of the All Progressive Congress (APC) for the September 22 election.
Akinwumi disclosed this when he played host to APC
chairmen from all the local government areas in the state in his Ilobu country home.
Engr. Akinwumi, who served as secretary to the state government between 1999 and year 2003, when Chief Adebisi Akande was governor, hails from Ilobu, a town in Osun Central Senatorial District.
The community leader, who is the current chairman of Egbe Igbimo Agba under the ruling All Progressive Congress in the state, said the next governor of the state should come from West to avoid needless tension in the ruling party.
He said in the spirit of fairness and justice, no Senatorial District should be treated as less superior in the state, even as he called for unity among various interests within APC to ensure that the party retains power beyond November 26, 2018, when the incumbent governor will bow out.
Speaking earlier, the forum, under their chairman, Elder Rufus Awotidoye, said the purpose of the visit was to let the world know that in the spirit of fairness, a competent candidate from
Osun West should succeed Governor Aregbesola.
They added that as party chairmen, they have all toiled for the success of APC in the state, hence the need to avoid anything that can send the party out of power.
Sources at the meeting also claimed that the chairmen urged Akinwumi to prevail on whoever working towards destabilising the party in the state to allow the majority to have their way regarding the choice of APC gubernatorial candidate.
